Freedom to sell Yahoo! on its broadcast television Web sites

IRVINE, CALIF. - March 23, 2010 – Freedom announced today it is extending its relationship with Yahoo! onto its broadcast Web sites, and is using Yahoo!’s APT behavioral targeting advertising solution on cbs12.com, a Freedom-operated Web site of CBS affiliate WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Fla. Freedom began selling Yahoo! on cbs12.com on March 16.

Freedom will sell the Yahoo! solution on three other broadcast sites in the coming weeks: kfdm.com (CBS affiliate KFDM-TV in Beaumont, Tex.), newschannel9.com (ABC affiliate WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, Tenn.) and wwmt.com (CBS affiliate WWMT-TV in Grand Rapids, Mich.).

Yahoo! will be introduced in Freedom’s three remaining broadcast markets – Albany, N.Y., Lansing, Mich. and Medford, Ore. – following training and roll outs on the initial four broadcast sites.

“With behavioral targeting and the sophistication it brings, our broadcast sites become an even more compelling proposition for local advertisers,” said Doreen Wade, president of Freedom Broadcasting.

Wade believes the success Freedom has realized across the newspaper Web sites will continue on the broadcast sites, given what the ad-serving technology can do for advertisers. Freedom currently sells Yahoo! on 17 of its newspaper Web sites as part of the Yahoo Newspaper Consortium, and plans to adopt APT from Yahoo! to other newspaper web sites in May and June.

“Yahoo extends the audience reach and provides scale to better compete for online advertising,” said Doug Bennett, president of Freedom Interactive. “Advertisers really get behind Yahoo!’s APT solution when they see how it works and its ability to deliver a tangible return on their investments.”
